25 Days of Christmas Quotes: Day 6

In the past few days, I have thought quite a bit about Christ’s humble beginnings on this earth. Though He certainly deserved so much more than to be born in a lowly stable in Bethlehem, Christ’s birthplace seems to have been part of God’s plan all along. (see Matthew 2:6)

In my view, those humble beginnings only add to Christ’s ultimate triumph as the Savior of the world. I also believe the specific circumstances and details surrounding his birth carry significant symbolic meaning.

Take, for instance, the manger that held Jesus. (see Luke 2:16) A manger is a feeding trough for animals: not exactly luxurious (or sanitary) accommodations.

I recently saw Christ’s manger referred to as a “King Size Bed” – I wish I’d thought of that piece of cleverness! A few other ideas about the manger, however, have popped into my mind lately…So today (and in the coming days) I’m going to quote myself. I know: what presumption! I hesitated to quote myself until I realized that basically every time I write, I’m doing just that. =)

(By the way, I’m probably not the first to think of the following symbolism…I’m just glad the idea decided to visit my ever-shrinking brain!)
