25 Days of Christmas Quotes: Day 23

The other day I posted a few words about the musical masterpiece Messiah, composed by Handel. I wish I had read the article Handel and the Gift of Messiah by Spencer J. Condie before that post. I just stumbled upon the article today, and it gives me a new appreciation for Handel’s composition. I hope you read it. A teaser: Handel considered himself a failure before composing Messiah (over a period of about three weeks!!!).

I was going to post the following quote on the last day of my 25 Days of Christmas Quotes. But since Handel’s Messiah features this verse in For Unto Us a Child is Born, it just seemed appropriate to include it today. =)

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

And since you asked nicely…here is a video of For Unto Us a Child is Born from Handel’s Messiah, again performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This part even rivals the Hallelujah Chorus!
